Biography

Paul Kuehnel is currently in his 5th year of study in the Architectural Engineering Program at Penn State.  In May of 2011, he will graduate with a Bachelor of Architectural Engineering degree, with a focus in structural systems.  He has passed the FE exam in the Fall of 2009 and will achieve EIT status upon graduation.  Paul looks forward to beginning work as a structural engineer for a consulting or AE firm to continue learning and obtain licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE).

During the summer of 2010, Paul participated in an internship as a Concrete Lab Intern for the Michigan Department of Transportation in Lansing Michigan.  Previously during the summer of 2008 Paul participated in a structural engineering internship at Simpson Gumpertz and Heger in Waltham Massachusetts.  These internships allowed Paul to gain an insight into the structural design process and necessary communication to achieve these goals.

Paul is active in several organizations including the PSU Student Chapter of Structural Engineers Association (SEA), where he serves as an executive board member, and the Penn State Cycling Club.  Paul participated in a self-designed study abroad program at McGill University in Montreal Quebec during his 3rd year of study.  This full year long experience allowed him to explore a new city and culture while continuing to follow the prescribed courses of the AE program from an international perspective.

In his free time Paul is very active and often enjoys being outdoors cycling, backpacking, or camping, among other activities such as reading and sketching.
